RGE-10

Post by laurie » Sat Oct 26, 2024 1:47 pm

Picked up one of this last week for USD$35. Am quite pleased. It is doing a nice job sitting in the FX loop of my Fender Hotrod Deluxe.

Very clean looking and the knobs aren't discoloured. A real bargain!

Dismantled the RGE-10 and cleaned and lubricated everything.

The rack-ears it came with are non-Roland. Holes had been randomly drilled in the side to connect them. Fortunately, no damage to components, just needed to clean up the metal burrs.

It is still in the FX loop of the Fender. Can't see any reason to move it.

Bought a new interface for my MacBook yesterday so that I can bring these Microrack units into play in my Logic Pro set up as external send/returns. Looking forward to using some outboard gear again - just like the good old days !

I am an absolute ignoramus in this regard. What did you buy and how do you set it up? Thanks!

No problem fuzzbuzzfuzz. I bought a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 4th Gen (4 inputs and 4 outputs) audio interface. This is how I set it up:-

Plug the supplied USB C cable from the Scarlett into the MacBook Pro (the Scarlett also has a mains adaptor that I use to reduce the USB power load on the Mac).

Open Logic Pro and select the Scarlett as the audio input/output source.

Create a new send/return buss in Logic.

Add the I/O plug in on that buss (the plug in is in ‘Utilities’).

Select the required inputs and outputs in the plug in to/from the external fx (also hit ‘Ping’ and the plug in will automatically set the latency compensation so that everything stays in sync).

Physically cable up the external fx.

You now have a send/return to an external fx available on any channel. My first test was with the new SDE-3 pedal and it worked perfectly.

There’s a lot more you can do with it but this is what I wanted it for.

Funnily enough I've been trying to do something similar today with an RV-6 (Scarlett 8i6 / Reaper). I must be doing something wrong somewhere as I can't work out a way of monitoring the effected signal without also hearing the dry signal. If I mute the dry track then it stops routing the audio out to the RV-6 :?

Will have to do some research :geek:
