Excellent Pepe, that's a spectacular find. They are running hot here in Japan in the 40k range!

I even saw an SD-1 at 60,000yen!!! (The older ones have gotten crazy)

Whoah, the prices in Japan have gotten insane! The HF-2 arrived yesterday. The unit is from 1986, the second year of production, of course Made in Japan. I cleaned it last night, pictures to follow.

I only had a small check with it through headphones and with a synthesizer, because the family is sick (a bad long-lasting cold, the virus is hitting us one after another). Sounds very nice and subtle - a flanger that doesn't annoy you after a few minutes as it seems. I like it!

I hope that i can confirm that once it arrives. I was really surprised that it didn't go over 100 EUR, the sold Reverb ads are around 200 EUR and more for pedals in this condition with the box. But the seller didn't mention where it was made in the auction - it was only very clear because of the bottom label in one of the pictures. I wonder if there is also the manual hiding under the pedal in the box, but I doubt it.

Sometimes life is funny. Or strange. For years I have been searching for an affordable BOSS HF-2. Two weeks ago I finally found one - and this week a second unit (declared as defective, untested) arrived at my place! It was extremely dirty and I had to use a dirt eraser to successfully remove the persistent stuff on the surface ("before" and "after" pictures below). But the unit is perfectly working. Again a Hi Band Flanger that was Made in Japan, this one is even from the very first production month! :o

It sounds a bit different than my other unit, though. The BBD delay time is set a bit longer (three semi-tones lower) and this affects the overall sound in a more drastic way than I had expected. I really prefer the setting of the HF-2 that I received first and I'm going to adjust the Clock trimpot of this second unit to achieve that sound. It has a more silvery sound that makes the HF-2 so special.

To my suprise I managed to win an ebay auction with a flawlessly looking Japanese BOSS SD-1 two weeks ago. The seller didn't state that it was Made in Japan, only one of the pictures of the black label revealed it. That must be the reason why it kept at a rather low price. I missed the end of the auction, because I saw no chances winning the pedal with my bid. A few hours later I was surprised to see that my bid indeed won the auction. Had another buyer thrown in another bid, I had instantly been outbid.

The pedal, produced in 1987, is in almost perfect condition! Only a few marks on the front of the treadle reveal that it must have been taken out of the box at some point. It had a Duracell battery attached to the battery clip. The negative pole was corroded with the clip, so this broke when I tried to remove the battery. But luckily there was no battery acid in the battery compartment! There is no manual, but the box and the plastic bag look like new. As does the whole pedal apart from the one spot on the front (and I still have to clean it - it might be that a dirt eraser could scrub away the marks). I doubt that a foot has ever touched the treadle! Everything looks so new. The pedal must have been tried for a few minutes and then been put back into the plastic bag and inside the box. And the box must have been stored away in a dark and dry place, because it shows no signs of discolouration and it also smells like a new BOSS pedal box.

Another crazy deal, like so many in the last months! Now I want to have some freetime and some healthiness so I can do something with all the treasures that I hunted down.

That is a really, really nice find! Dealing with the battery snap feels like a small inconvenience :D
