Need help with a serial number
I just bought a made in japan GE-7 with a serial number of B977975. the serial number decoder website tells me that it's "some other serial number scheme". Removing the B gave a dec 1988 date.
Is this date accurate? Any info on 6 digits serial numbers starting with a "B"?

Re: Need help with a serial number
Hey there. Are you sure you wrote the number down correctly? Are there really 7 digits, starting with a B?
I only ask, because my 1988 MIJ DD-3 only has 6 digits (no letters at all) on the serial number sticker inside the battery compartment.

Yes it's the usual 6 digits but with an added capital "B" letter at the beginning. The "B" is a little bit smaller than the numbers.

Sorry man, no idea. I'd imagine others in the know will be by to help.
Is yours a sticker inside the battery compartment or on the bottom plate? Pictures may help... (Edit: we posted at the same time!

Re: Need help with a serial number
Hey sebastien32, I also have some pedals with paper sticker serial numbers that have a character like A or B before the 6 digits.
If you want to use the decoder, you must type only the 6 numerals, ignore that first character.
Why Boss used that first character is a mystery to me, as much as many others things about Boss pedals, even in the Boss book there's no information about that.
I've been searching high and low over the internet for years about Boss pedals and some details are just that, a mystery.
Maybe somebody like Laurie, Doc or Pepe, with much more knowledge would give you a better information, but as I said before, never read an explanation about that.
Cheers.

I'm also very sure that you have to ignore the single letter and only use the digits. I think I had a few of those pedals in my collection. Don't ask me why BOSS did that.

I think it’s just one of those things - nobody knows !
