Picked up a broken Maxon OD808 today

Post by laurie » Sun Oct 23, 2022 4:17 am

It had been dropped - directly onto its knobs. The two halves of the potentiometers had come apart.

Bought "for parts" for USD$26.

Really easy mechanical fix. Put the two halves back together and reset the metal "fingers" holding them together.

I like it. A lot. It will likely replace the MIJ SD-1 on my board.

That’s an excellent find Laurie ! Great to hear it’s working again. Those do sound good.

It must have been a very specific hit on all three knobs at once because all three potentiometers had the same fault. Either that or someone hit each knob with a hammer...

Irrespective of the cause, the fix was easy and did not require any parts. I've wrapped a cable tie around each potentiometer body so that the clips can't spring open again in the future.

And yes, it has replaced the MIJ SD-1 on my board.

Nice fix! And one of the best TS type pedals, very soft edges and less muddy than the stock TS-9 for example. Enjoy!
