Re: Boss DM-2 pcb variants
Re: Boss DM-2 pcb variants
Today I was browsing a local e-market and found a DM-2 for a good price, since I have "all 3 variants" of the DM-2 (DM-2, DM-2A and DM-2B), it was just out of curiosity.
But looking closely I saw that the pcb part number was different from my DM-2 trio.
This one has a "large" Delay lettering, like the A and B version, but some components, like a socket to hold the chip, are more likely to be the earlier version, so it's either a late DM-2 or an early DM-2A.
And another variant was added to my collection...
It's in the mail, will arrive in 10 days, more or less.
Here are the pictures, they are all from the sellers I bought them from, and are in this order:
DM-2, DM-2 ? (the new one), DM-2A and DM-2B.
Edit: It's an A version, I found another one in Japan and I could see the A printed on the components side of the pcb, so it is an early version of the DM-2A.
Now we know that there are 4 versions, and not only 3, of the DM-2.
A small red arrow points to the different pcb part numbers, 2291045801, 2, 3 or 4.

Re: Boss pedal photo thread
Wow ! This is such incredible detail. Great work !
It makes my head spin - in a good way !

Re: Boss DM-2 pcb variants
Thanks Doc, it's too much time in my hands.
I was wondering why Boss went from the pcb final "1", to "2", to "3", etc.
Maybe when they changed from the MN3005 chip to the new and improved MN3205 something went wrong with the new final 2 board (made for the new chip) and they had to solder that diode at the solder side of the board.
All other pcb versions has a diode somewhere around the MN3101/3102 chip, but in the final 2 pcb the diode is missing on the top side of the board.
So they had to modify it again to the final 3, in order to save manufacturing time.
The last version, final 4, I don't know why it came to be.
I know this is information that the majority will not care about, but maybe there is another crazy collector like me that will find this informative and entertaining.

Ha ha - like me ! I’m totally entertained.

Doc has the equivalent of Legos for a BOSS head!
Re: Boss DM-2 pcb variants
"Wait !!! Don't call now, there is more!"
Yep, there is more...It's a nightmare.
I just found that there is yet another DM-2 pcb version, the "0".
The first ones, in this case from May 1981, the pcb part number ends in "0".
So, there are 5 DM-2 variants... For now.
Who knows how many more will pop up?

Re: Boss DM-2 pcb variants
It just arrived, the DM-2 with the pcb part number that ends in "2", the second from left to right.
I bought it thinking it would complete my DM-2 "family", but now I know at least one more, the "0", is missing.

Very nice picture. I just got the space echo, the first one I could find second hand. Next thing I’m gonna do is play the tera echo and the space echo together. Thanks for the pics and the dm2 history/archeology.

Thank you Fallen_lassen, happy to help, my cellphone is a "vintage" Galaxy S5, the photos are always a bit blurry, but every time I think about to change it, I prefer to buy a new pedal to the collection.Fallen_lassen wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:11 pmVery nice picture. I sent a PM to Admin asking to transfer those DM-2 posts to the new thread I created, but I think he didn't see it yet.
So I copied 2 of them to the new thread and will continue to post there any other piece of info I discover about the DM-2.
