Okay, since this is a comparison between different overdrive circuitry, I decided to squeeze in a Boss OD-2 that, like the 32OD, uses transistors in the gain stages.
In the picture you can see how I set them up to sound "similar" to each other, but not quite, they are different beasts.
My Boss OD-2 (571300 AUG 1985 first month ) is a beloved classic, very smooth and strong on mids, not really on bass and not really strong as a booster, nice combined with "dark" amplifiers, like vintage Marshalls.
The Laurie 32OD , has a much more open sound, the EQ works in a much wider range of frequencies, better than the others because you have more control over the lower frequencies, the OD-2 works only in the "high'n'mids" and the ODR-1 without the bass cut is a bit "boomy".
The clean blender is it's "forté" and has a big influence on how the overdrive presents itself, from granulated and a tiny bit raspy to a soft attack smoothness.
From this trio, the Laurie 32OD is the lightest in the overdrive, as you can see in the picture, the "Drive" knob is on maximum to cope with the others.
Another characteristic of the 32OD is the strong output, shines boosting preamp tubes/valves of a "cleanish" Fender flavor amp. I like to use it to boost my DIY Champ to play Blues. (When I say "play Blues" is in my alternate reality, in this world I only make noises )
The Nobels ODR-1 is, as I said before, smooth and responsive to the way you play, the spectrum has a very clever design.
It is also a strong booster, and goes from totally clean to almost distortion, I would say that it is the most versatile among these three.
Both 32OD and ODR-1 are very "transparent", being the ODR-1 a little bit more. But I strongly recommend to buy the newer version with the bass cut switch, the "boomyness" can be a problem in some situations, playing with my JCM800 thru a 4x12, the amp bass knob must be turned down to almost zero.
So that's it, I hope my thoughts could be useful to any of you guys, not really a pro on reviews (far from that), but did my best to compare those 3 pedals that I like very much.
