A possible long-dash OD-1 build
I seem to be on a pedal-building streak...
Last night as I was sorting through some old music gear I came across the pedal I designed 10 years ago as a proof-of-concept... can a pedal using the long-dash OD-1 (quad opamp) schematic sound the same as the original, even though it is made with new components and a completely different PCB layout? yes it can. It sounded exactly the same.
The chip in the pedal is a "3403" and NJR (the people who do the musical NJM4558D) are making new production NJM3403 chips today.
I was thinking of doing another small run of these... not the same as last time, a new design using the 3403. It would be the 3403_OD. It will sound almost exactly the same as a long-dash OD-1.
Anyone interested in such a beast?

Re: A possible long-dash OD-1 build
I sold all my OD-1s except the 14-pin one, because none of them sounded as good
Now I never use the 14-pin one because its the only one I've got!
so, yeah, I'd be interested in that

My OD1 is a 4558 version.
I have heard such good things about the 3403 that I'd be interested in one. Seemingly, it's pretty touch responsive, more amp like..?

i could well be, chances are that i definitely am, wrong, but
somewhere in the back of my mind i have this factoid that the the 14 pin Raython chip was only half used in the old OD-1 circuit

Is this a revival of the SQO?

Not an SQO (that name belongs to someone else now), but a separate take on the OD-1 that will be "functionally equivalent"...

Re: A possible long-dash OD-1 build
The only reason I even thought of this was because I made a label for my "vintage" (2011) SQO when I was making labels for the 32OD...

If there is any interest in this project, I can plan do a small batch in the fall/winter...
It won't be the same as the one pictured above, but will be an exact functional replica of a 4-opamp, Rev A OD-1, just like the one above was.
Hmmmm.... I could even add EQ - the same Baxandall EQ as the 32 OD.

Oh... and I'd put an "EQ defeat" switch on it so you could take the EQ out of the circuit and it would go back to being pure Rev A OD-1.laurie wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 5:08 pmIf there is any interest in this project, I can plan do a small batch in the fall/winter...
