Laurie, could you build a design based on a circuit you put into your guitar? Not interested in a pedal really. As you mentioned you have a lot of low gain transistors, a circuit like this may fit the bill.
Maybe some other folks here may be interested as well.

I am not sure if you would need to know specifics of the guitar, since this could turn it into a "one-off custom idea" which is less interesting for you.
Just let us know what the possibilities are, and also, if other people are interested in something like that as well.

For me, I would like it, just one sound, ideally operated by a push-pull button.
Cheers
Regretfully, no. The types of circuit I am able-to-manufacture/interested-in simply won't fit in a guitar. Pedals only.

Cool! Can we expect new effect circuits soon? :D
Maybe. I have an idea for a Germanium overdrive that, to my knowledge, has never been done before in the way I'm thinking.

I have hundreds of low-gain Germanium transistors that didn't "make the cut" for the Fuzz Architect pedals that could be used ...
A transistor based Ge OD, eh? I'll take two please.

Is it possible to mod an OD-2 to use PNP Ge transistors?

Well... you could swap Q12, Q15 and Q20 for PNP Ge transistors. I have NO idea what it would do to the tone. It would do something, though :)

Thank you for that sentiment.

Much water under many bridges before I have something that actually works. I'll keep you posted.

Hummm, I have a spare OD-2 here, some Ge transistors, sockets...

Although I didn't like the Electro Harmonix Ge overdrive, my only reference.

Thank you Laurie, I will think about it.

Thanks for your reply Laurie.
Would like something simple as it will make travelling easier.
Cheers!

Interested to see how this progresses, Laurie.

Talking of Germanium based ODs, I was having a blast on my BSD last night. Cracking pedal 8-)
