I am going nuts about this issue !
Even if I turn down the volume knob completely on the unit itself I can still hear it faintly on my MACKIE mixer ???
I only have the guitar connected as input and the stereo out to my mixer !
What am I missing here ?

Welcome to the forum!
I can fully understand that this behaviour must be very annoying. As I can see it in the manual you can use a "mute" option in the tuner function. Have you tried this already? At least in the German user's manual it is described on page #4.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the tuner !

My idea was that if you want to have the GT-1000 to be absolutely silent you could switch to the Tuner mode with the touch of two buttons and enjoy pure silence, if the "mute" function does a proper job. Apparently the volume knob doesn't. So if you cannot produce silence with the volume knob, then you have to find another way.
What else would definitely work is to put a volume pedal between the pedal and the amp. A cheap one would be sufficient.
