I just got this pedal and I've installed some York IRs, I've read the manual and I've searched high and low for help with this answer to no avail. Here's my situation, it's a little long winded and I appreciate your time if you make it to the end.

I would like the green channel to be clean and then be able to switch over to red for a little more oomph. I'd like to do this for all the amp selections so that I could switch from clean to dirty while playing live. But here's what is happening. I will tweak the green channel on say the TWN selection to my liking and then I go over to red and tweak that one. Everything is all groovy as long as I never turn the knob again. But if I switch over to another amp selection, let's just say BRIT for example, and I tweak the green and red on that selection, when I go back to TWN, one of my green or red channels is now completely whack. It seems that my previous setting on TWN is apparently been overwritten by whatever I do on BRIT.

And yes, I wait more than a few seconds before switching anything because that's what the manual says to do. I've even tried unplugging the pedal before I tweak anything else to hopefully "lock in" whatever I've done, but whenever I go mess with another "amp," my previously saved settings on the prior selection is gone.

The owner's manual just confuses me even more. For editing/saving, the manual says turn the knob to Brit green and tweak away and it's saved automatically. (Great. So far so good). Then it says to change over to red and tweak away to save your setting on the red channel. (They haven't lost me yet). Then it says you can turn the knob to another selection, they use BROWN, and tweak to your liking. (I'm still hanging in there). The final step in the manual says to switch to green (still on the BROWN amp) and then my BRIT sounds from step 1 will be recalled. What? Why? Why does it recall the BRIT sound when I'm on BROWN???? If I previously loaded the York IR for BROWN, I apparently just overwrote the York BROWN IR with whatever the last BRIT setting was.

Even accepting that it's going to overwrite the York IR on the green channel if I do the steps outlined in the manual, that doesn't explain why when I go back to TWN, those sounds have been overwritten by something completely unrelated. I'm sure I'm misunderstanding how this pedal is supposed to work or I'm doing something completely ignorant, but I don't get the point of labeling a switch position as TWN or RFIER, being able to load those respective IRs into the appropriate slots through the IR Loader, only to have them get completely overwritten if you tweak an unrelated selection.

I posted this on the Reddit guitar pedals sub and got over 100 views with zero comments. So I'm hoping the good people here at the Boss forum can provide a little more help and save this old man's sanity. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much.

Welcome to the forum. I do not own the IR-2, but I know some of us do. Perhaps they can help, if they can reproduce the symptom you are experiencing. I recall reading some stuff on the IR-2 on this board about external footswitch settings being particular and not as intuitive as they should be.

The forum is not as active as it used to be, but be patient, I am sure someone here with an IR-2 will get you some help in a couple days.

Thanks for the reply. I reached out to Roland and here's what they said. I totally overestimated what this pedal could do, I guess. But maybe this will help if anyone else ever runs into this problem.

Sorry to hear you're having issues. 
I think you're misunderstanding the save feature on the IR-2, allow me to explain a bit. 
There are only two channels/presets to save sounds to. Green is a channel and Red is a channel. Not for each of the amp types but for the overall device. You can use the amp type knob to select a pre-amp sound for either red or green channel. That's it. 
Set the knobs the way you wish for GREEN. 
Set the knobs the way you wish for the RED. 
Use the IR-2 pedal to switch between GREEN (clean) and RED (dirt).

Ah, that's indeed explaining your problem, but, man, this is very user-unfriendly in the year 2024. Two presets only? For a modern digital unit that offers eleven modes with each six parameters and each two channels? I also had expected that 22 preset were available.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the pedal at this point. On one hand, it's replacing my tube amp if I use it live so I don't have to lug that thing around, and it's not like I had 11 rigs that I would bring on stage, so I don't really NEED it to do what I thought it did. But on the other hand, I feel a little misled based on the description of 11 amp sims and all the YouTube videos where people just go through all 11 sims, but they never go back to the previous setting and explain that it just got overwritten.
The product website does have this buried way down on the page if you keep scrolling to the end:
"Stage Performance - Take the guesswork out of great stage sound and perform with consistent tones in every venue. Sending a feed from the IR-2’s outputs to a house PA system provides a studio-quality signal that’s not affected by the performance environment. And if you need more than one amp sound while performing, you can toggle between two IR-2 amp/cab setups with the pedal switch or an external footswitch." So there you go.

Yeah, as a compact pedal, it has two presets. That works for me, but can understand if it doesn't for others.

I think the IR-200 would be more suitable if you want lots of presets.

It has to be a marketing decision - the memory to save a preset is trivial, and the code to do it already exists in the IR-200.

Wonder if it will be a firmware upgrade later?

I'll check my IR2 with the same process and see what happens. It seems to remember what I stored on green and red, even after I change one or the other to another platform or setting.

I had my usual saved settings for green (clean) and red (modded). I Changed red to brit, tweaked knobs and it saved. Switched to green and it was the same clean that has been in there for months. Switched red back to modded and my settings, switched green to twin and played with the knobs. Same result--didn't have any effect on the red setting.
