New Waza Craft Pedals

Post by mjd78 » Mon Jan 29, 2024 12:18 am

Which of the Waza Craft pedals are not remakes of older ones? Am I correct that only the BP-1w and FZ-1w are the only new titles/names for Waza craft pedals instead of adding the w to a previously issued pedal? Thanks in advance!

That seems right to me.

There are varying degrees of technical you can get with it, as technically 2 of the 3 BP-1W modes have been done before, but not in compact form.

Some others that are open to interpretation:
TB-2W
CE-2W due to its CE-1 mode.

That is very technical and very true. Good catch! I was referring to compact form.

I would probably count the TB-2W and CE-2W in there then :)

If are you are trying to avoid redundancy, here are my thoughts on the pedals not already mentioned that are significantly different after owning all of them except the TU-3W.

DS-1W. The circuit is significantly different from every other iteration of the DS-1, with discrete JFET clipping instead of op-amp driven diode clipping. It has very little compression and imo, sounds and plays a lot closer to a Rat than a DS-1.

DM-2W. I find the standard mode to be weaker than originals, but the custom mode with 800ms of lightly modulated delay makes it a lot more usable.

MT-2W. Has 4 lower gain op amps as found on most MT-2 built after 2011 or so, so it feels a lot different compared to 90s MT-2. The custom mode is really different and turns this into an amazing dirty boost, e.g. it will push a Plexi into hot-rodded Plexi territory. In custom I think it is more comparable to something like an Ibanez Super Metal.

The rest I have been sort luke warm on. If I wasn't collecting and had good eras/versions of the originals, the FZ-1W and BP-1W would probably be the only ones I would buy.

The TU-3w is black, so for me, it is different enough to buy for my collection. I bought the BP-1W, FZ-1W, TU-3S and you have made me lean in the direction of buying the CE-2W. I wish they would just release it as the CE-1 or make a CE-1 on compact form.

The CE-2W has the volume reduction resistor that the CE-3 and DC-2 had stock. It is probably worth noting that.

Have spoken with the local Boss rep and the company is pretty adamant about anything resembling a reissue having to surpass the originals in some way, which makes a standalone CE-1 unlikely.

I wonder if we might see some sort of high end analogue chorus/modulation pedal in the RE-202/DM-101 enclosure? Could be the closest we’ll see to a CE-1 “reissue”.

If it’s just the sound you’re after though, the CE-2w’s a good option.
