Andertons in the UK still have more than 10 of them (they don't specify exact stock number when it's 10+). Their website says they ship to Japan but does mention there are some exemptions for shipping some brands to certain countries.

Might be worth a try if you're keen to get hold of one? LINK

Are these pedals using SMD mounting?
Yep. They are the current Malaysian SMD guts inside.

Despite my initial thought to not get any of these, I did pick up the B50 SD1. It wasn't expensive and does look cool. Since these are virtually unmoddable, I picked the one that I like stock.
I have many DS1, and almost never play the stock MIJ, so that was out.
The BD2 was tempting, but I prefer my slightly modded BD2 with the phat switch on and smoother tone control.
The SD1 as a boost is great with no mods. I may just use it from time to time instead of the MIJ SD1 or 4558 OD1.

It does have the usual serial number and an additional sticker by the power jack, which has the sequential number of the series, like the Waza. Mine was 32XX or something like that.

Compared it to my Aug 83 stock SD1. Waaay more alike than different, as usual. They do a good job keeping the sound consistent over the years. The MIJ does seem to be just a touch more focused and almost sounds like it has a little more clean blend. The MIM SD1 with a battery in it was still a little lighter than the MIJ with no battery.

Thanks for the confirmation. I had been very surprised to hear that they used through hole component boards for this anniversary series.

Here's the 'special' decals and such.

Here's the 2023 vs 1983. 40 years apart in age, about 98% the same sound. Especially to my forgiving ears. Plus, I use them to push a dirty amp, so nuance is out the window.

It would be really cool if they did. I get it, not the best way to build a lot of pedals efficiently.

Just putting it out there but if anyone needs any of these and they are sold out where you are, a local mom n pop shop near me has a couple of each.

There is nothing extra inside. I thought there would be a certificate with the serial number like xxx / 7000 too but not even that. Pretty bog standard really.
That's a bit of shame. There's a history of Boss on their website at the moment (LINK). It would have been nice to maybe have had something in printed form included with the anniversary pedals.

The anniversary would have been a good opportunity for an updated version of the Boss Book too.
Not quite printed form but there is "commemorative brochure" created in conjunction with Guitarist and Guitar World celebrating the 50th Anniversary. The e-mail I got from Boss described it as a free download but the download option seems to be disabled for me.

You can access it here: LINK
