Boss FS-5U ... need some help
Does anyone have one they can test for me? The "mode" switch changes the pedal from "normally open" NO to "normally closed" NC. I can't find info about what the switch position does. Is setting it to the left (looking into the front of the pedal) setting it to NO or NC?
Re: Boss FS-5U ... need some help
My FS5U is from March, 2000. Made in China.
When the switch is closer to the jack: Normally Closed.
Away from the jack: Normally Open.
This FS5U was bought new 23 years ago, and is used NC exclusively with my DD5.
For reference/cross reference with my March, 2009 FS5L, also made in China.
When the switch is closer to the jack: it's open when the LED is lit.
When the switch is away from the jack: It's closed when the LED is lit. (I use this setting with the SD2: red LED corresponding with Red Mode
This is parallel, if you consider the LED being lit on the FS5L = pressing the footswitch down on the FS5U. I'm postulating that this is the circuit standard for BOSS.

For future reference.
Based on the experience with my DD-7 and now RC-3, plus bigtone23's experience with the DD-5, it appears that the Boss "standard" for external momentary action switches is normally closed ("NC") for modern digital pedals.

Made this out of:
Total cost about USD$30. Tiny footprint - much smaller than a pair of FS-5 or an FS-6.
.
- 2 x Carling NC momentary switches
- 1 x Rean stereo jack
- 1 x 1590ABK Hammond box
