Thought I would start a thread re: this topic as there are quite a few unique systems, parts and bits out there that can do away with velcro and the sticky factor.

Well, I hate velcro in pedals.

But I have to admit it is the most practical way to have the pedals held on the pedal board.

If you are a very rare kind of guitar player that doesn't change pedals very often (does it exists?), you may use the same "system" Boss, Behringer and others have in those plastic, suitcase style pedal boards. A piece of thick EVA foam with cutouts in the exact shape of your pedals.

You may use a Behringer PB1000 pedal board to do that, because it is big and in it you can arrange your pedals with ease. Replace the original small pieces of foam and put one with the necessary cutout to hold your different shape and size pedal.

The only problem is, if you want to change pedals, you will need to take a fresh piece of EVA foam and cut it for the new pedal.





Or you may use only Boss pedals, like me:

This is exactly what I did in 2003. I bought a large case that a local case builder made for me. I also bought a few layers of foam and cut them out so that my "big" pedal collection could fit inside. Very soon I found out that this approach was only good looking, but apart from that pretty impractical. Not only didn't I have the possibility to rearrange my pedals on the fly (I had pedals from different brands), I also had to move my feet over the rim of the case which was too high to be comfortable. Up to today I don't like pedalboards. I have to have my pedals on the ground, on the same level as my feet. And in a single row (at least those pedals that I need to stomp from time to time).

Yeah, it's not practical if you want to rearrange the pedals, that's why the damn velcro is still being used.

Since I'm not a pro, only play at home, a PB1000 with Boss pedals is more than enough to me.

When I play with big pedals, I also lay them down on the floor.

That was my only gripe with the BCB-60 (apart from huge acreage for six pedals) and some other boards with big rubber feet, angling my toes upwards to go downwards! Like you I prefer the pedals at floor height

So I made a few homemade boards with home center wood and velcro, oddly the velcro was the most expensive part!

That said for large units esp. wahs, on the floor at a comfortable angle is best.

Wasn't so bad with the earlier BCB-6, but then there's that awkward "will I damage my pedals" forcing the BOSS units into the plastic bobbled spaces. And of course almost only BOSS or similar sized units pop in those.

If you have a board with holes going through it, use zip ties.
Oh, pay no nevermind to the straight Switchcraft connectors on the front row. They have been replaced with short, right-angle cables.

I've used zip ties in the past but they aren't always practical and look ugly, too. Since then I've been using Dual Lock - much better than velcro - and it's far better than anything else short of the Aclam system, IMO. I flipped over the Boss pedal base plates but that's not ideal, so I'm getting some blank plates for the pedals to use instead.

I cut a business to size to protect the label, and then whack a couple of thin strips of velcro across the back

I use cheap haberdashery velcro from the supermarket - I don't like strong velcro, and the cheap stuff is quite adequate to old pedals in place
