use same pedals at the same time with two amps via send return. the idea is to use one clean amp and one overdrive amp. is this even possible?

Overall it will work just in the way you intend to use it. I don't have the RV-6, but when I use the RV-5 in true stereo mode, a little bit of the other channel will always get through. For example if I use input B with a normal signal while nothing at all is coming in at the also connected input A, a small amount of the reverberated (completely wet) input B signal will be heard at output A. I don't know if the RV-6 acts the same way.

This will work theoretically, however...

Assuming the amps use grounded power cords this will create a "ground loop", even if the amps are plugged into the same power outlet.

You might get lucky, but almost certainly this will generate hum.

Oh, good point! I didn't think of that. Some amps have ground lift switches. Maybe this one as well?

Since I have seen lots of really dumb and dangerous stuff when I was working in a music shop: don't isolate the ground of the amp's plugs!

I played with a guitar player who did this to run 2 amps through a stereo chorus pedal using the fx loop.
My advice as an electrician: Don't!

To pa11ie, can't you just run your pedals in front of the amps? I assume you use an A/B switcher to switch between amps.
That seems less hassle, and no chance of hum.
So signal path would be: guitar - pedals - A/B switch - amps.
