New Boss Anniversary pedals

Post by The_Doc » Thu May 20, 2021 7:37 am

Mmmm… I wonder if this is the start of a new trend.. special anniversary versions of existing pedals rather than inspirational new ones?

I agree. I would normally jump at something like this but, this time, I’m really not that fussed. Perhaps it’s time to end my collecting.

I understand the commercial "why" of it.

And there is a fundamental question - is there anything new under the sun with effect pedals? I've been watching companies announcing "something never seen before" for over 10 years and there isn't anything ever really new. I had high hopes for things like the TE-2, but it is a variation, not something new. Imagine what the reaction must have been to the first ever phaser pedal... nothing like that had ever been heard before. That just doesn't happen any more.

So if it isn't possible to produce a new sound/tone, what's left but to reissue and tread old ground...

On the topic of TE-2 pedals, I'd be interested in one if someone knows of one going cheap.

TE-2 and MO-2 are on my radar for months, but I haven't seen a cheap one yet. The used prices are on a stable level. The price of the TE-2 has even gone up in the last months.

I quite like the look of them but doubt I'll buy either. I don't have an SD-1 or MT-2 but think I would probably be more likely to pick up the Waza Craft versions if I were to get one. The MT-2 doesn't seem great value compared to the Waza version tbh (prices from Andertons in the UK):

SD-1 - £55
SD-1-4A - £69
SD-1w - £129

MT-2 - £105
MT-2-3A - £119
MT-2w - £129

I would rather like to see a reissue of the OD-2R as an anniversary edition. THAT would be something.

Or PQ-4, or a CE-2B, or... or...

A black BF-2 with purple lettering would look good. As would a black PH-1r with green lettering.

If they keep it up, you could own an entirely black Boss board. That'd do for me. :D

To be brutally honest, and risking to look like a rant person, I disagree with you all, guys.

Enough of this commemorative edition, waza edition, collaborative edition, edition edition...

I'm sick and tired of this Boss behavior in recent years.

I want the "Innovative sound solutions" Boss was famous for in the past.

I want new tools, there are a lot of new and innovative pedals in the market nowadays and Boss is releasing "yesterday's bread" for all of us.

Sorry, but this is my opinion.
