New BOSS pedals!

Post by fuzzbuzzfuzz » Thu Aug 23, 2018 1:17 pm

It's been quite a while - and great to have the forum intact! :D

Traded my way to a nice haul of BOSS vintage yesterday.

1) DM-2 - never thought I'd acquire one at a decent price but lo and behold a grommet free one came up at a great rate. Even better its an early one that I'm positive has the MN3005 chip in, nice firm knobs and very clean overall, and it sounds so good  Dates at Oct 1981.

2) PD-1 - the weird silver beast, serial "15000" dating to Dec 1980. Not had a test of this odditity yet.

3) SD-1 - couldn't resist a second at a super low price, MIJ and after a bit of a scrub came up dandy. Tempted to carefully lop C6 to see what the fuss is about. Dates: Aug 1985

Purchasing the above has made me whip out my old BCB-6 board, experiment and get a big smile on my face. Such a simplicity in the bold colours and big unmissable foot switches. Rediscovered the RV-2 and the FZ-2 too, pure Black Angels right there!

Good to be back :D

This is a heck of a board man. I kind of miss my DC-2.

They are all vintage and all look pristine from here.

Thanks.

I have a couple more BCB-6s and use them to store carefully selected Boss units, mostly in very good condition. I gigged the BCB live maybe four years back with an AD-80 Maxon on delay duties. This is the first time with the RV-2 in place and the DM-2 of course. There’s alwYs a bit of compromising, normally a TU-2 plus 5. Of course you can swap out with ease for different gigs.

...and yesterday a few old haunts turned up some more Boss beauties!

A time-warp/local typeshop had a big selection of pedals gathering dust in a display case so I cherry-picked and negotiated my way through to get these:

The OC-2 is an ACA Taiwan model, boxed with all the papers. Although I bought it "NOS", it has a few minor micro chips consistent with being on a BOSS BCB type board (those little holding lugs have left very small paint chips). There are also a few micro chips on the body (somehow its always OC-2s that have this!). So it may have been a demo unit at some point. Nether the less its about 95-97% perfect

Since I already have 2 x OC-2s, I'll be listing this one for sale in the Sale section and then a week later on Ebay.

The PQ-4 is NOS mint in box. I've never had one before as they are not so common to pick up, particularly as old stock. I haven't tested it yet. I should keep it for the collection, studio use, but I may have to let it go if I get a good enough offer since I've bought quite a bit recently. ;)

From a larger used store (where the staff failed to produce either an adaptor or fresh 9v batteries to test with!), I took a chance on bringing the following home:

DSD-2, again never had one, and its the shorter lived "2" model. Has some hard knocks down one side but otherwise its quite clean, dates from Aug 1985. Compared to the early DD-3 its identical sound wise but with the odd sample type function. I'll keep it as the price was right for the collection and the sample trigger might be useful for...something :D Anyone have any bright ideas or use one?

DD-3 - MIJ Long chip from Jan 1988 almost mint bar the knobs now faded to almost green! Most stores seem oblivious (usefully!) to the superiority of the long chip and in fact tend to charge less due to them being more worn/older/faded etc. I'm a bit overstocked on DD-3s (3 working, 1 not) so I may pass this on sale wise or sell another).

All in all its been a good week for BOSS hunting!

..and that PD-1 kicks some serious posterior, a GREAT Tubescreamer on steroids :D

Cunning :)

Whilst I will likely not use it on a regular basis I think it, like the LM-2, will be a very useful studio tool, or for a little live recording too.

Any particular method for setting up Pepe?

Nope, it depends on the room and the other musician's sounds. But it's easy to set up.

PQ-4 Mint in box? This is indeed a rare find. I mean, an upgrade is on my wishlist (see other post) so I'm definitely jealous.
