Just placed an order for an SD-2 in great condition with box/manual for $100 on Reverb!

Looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks for all the advice!

You won't be disappointed, I'm sure. The best mode is Remote with an external footwitch.

Are the two circuits in the SD-2 similar to any other well-known OD's or distortion; e.g. OD-1, SD-1, OD-3, Bluesbreaker, Governor, DS-2, Rat, HM-2, etc?

Actually yea I think of the SD-2 is a lot like having the guvnor in a boss pedal ... it uses LEDs as clipping diodes , I think that gives it certain range of lower gain tones that are still edgy and then the higher gain tones that are still dynamic.

Oops...double post!

So, is the OD mode similar to a Bluesbreaker pedal and the lead mode similar to a Guv'nor or is it more like a dual mode Gov'nor with low and high gain modes?

While rescueing some threads of the StompBoxZone forum I stumbled over this post:

It's a custom Boss design. The input resembles a bit the the boss MT-2 (gyrator booster at 952 Hz followed by two stages of opamp amplifiers).

After that there are two stages of clipping, shunt leds and asymmetric feedback like in OD1/SD1 at fixed gain (2x), followed by more fixed filtering and gain (3x).

The tone stage is similar to BD-2/OD2/OD3 followed by level knob and a buffer.

Did your SD-2 arrive in the meantime? :)

Yes, arrived, but I have not had a chance to try it yet. Very clean with box and manual in great shape...almost mint!

Then the price is absolutely justified. I received my very clean looking SD-2 from Dirk in one of our pedal tours.

I have been scoping out OD-2r's as well. They seem to be going for more $ than the SD-2. I think with my SD-2, JB-2, OS-2, and a OD-2r on a board, I would have just about any OD need covered!

Is the OD-2r similar to the OD-3; i..e., no pronounced mid hump and wider frequency response? My OD-3 doesn't seem to cut out bass like my SD-1 or TS variants, while my BD-2 is REALLY bright (I have to run it with tone knob almost fully counter clockwise) and also a bit mid scooped. OD-3 sounds much more neutral. That is a nice sound to have as well!
