Yes, I'm really happy that I took the risk getting the pair. The pictures in the ad didn't look very promising.

I guess that was due to the tonal differences of the two MIJ BF-2 models? Maybe they had sounded identically after a recap and the same calibration.
For several months, I had two MIJ BF2, a green label Nov 89 and a black label Nov 80. There were the usual visual differences: lighter shade of paint, silver screw and green caps in the older one, yellow caps in the newer (it was clearly the early transitional model before MIT). The 80 ended up on my old/mostly silver screw BCB6 board. I wanted to keep them both, however, they sounded really similar, not different enough to warrant keeping them both. Therefore, I bro dealed my old friend the 89, which now resides on his main pedalboard and getting used. :D

BF-2 are really cool, although I can never find a use for them. 😂 Except for the "Bark at the moon" chorus sound that works great with distortion.

Very nice.

I’m always taken - in tactile manner - for the early hand(?) painted SS ones with the visible brush marks. Also the smooth rounded edge case.

The BF-2 features heavily (along with the VB-2) on Graham
Coxon (of Blur)’s board and of course many an 80s artist such as Robert Smith or Billy Duffy.

Cuts well through a mix and a rotary type fast speed is achievable.

The BF2 is a must have. It's really it's own thing. I love it for it's jet, focused thing.
I also have a 78 EHX Electric Mistress (for the thicker, more chorus-y thing) and 78 ADA Flanger (for the cleaner thing)
Between the 3, I'm covered!

Yes, you’re right there. It’s a “toolbox” thing, you know the sound you want and it fits.

A few months ago I bought a pair of BOSS Micro Rack effects (Digital Chorus Ensemble and Digital Reverb) and in the parcel was also a Roland ACI-220J power supply. It says 9V at 1000mA, but I checked it with my multimeter first. I was so glad that I didn't plug it into the digital Micro Rack units, because it is an unregulated power supply, similar to the BOSS ACA, producing over 14V with no-load.

But then I checked which units needed this ACI-220J. And I found out that the VT-1 Voice Transformer needs it to be properly powered. An untested VT-1 popped up for sale and I went for it, although the price wasn't really too cheap. Anyway, the VT-1 works fine (after a good cleaning) and it is a funny effect for vocals (Apollo 440 used it for "Stop the Rock"). I thought it could be nice as a pitch shifter for other instruments as well, but sadly it only works with monophonic signals.

And a few days ago I received a BOSS BF-2B Bass Flanger which was declared as defective. The seller said that the effect signal was too silent. Well, almost (!) to my disappointment it arrived in fully working condition. I adjusted the feedback trimpot a little, because it was way too tame. Nice sounding, but I don't really have a need for it. The '80s with the Mark King bass flanger sounds are over in my opinion. ;)

I had the VT-1, love this machine, great robot voice. Industrial sounds if you plug a synth in it. After a while I decided that the vocoder wasn't for me because I listen so much vocoded songs that I felt I wasn't myself as a composer when I used it. But again : great little effect.
