Regarding the short that was produced by dropping it upside down: is that a bad design by Peavey? It looks like there are only a few millimetres between the PCB and the metal. Using no insulating material in this area is pretty crazy, or is it completely common to build it like that? We're talking about guitar amps. Stuff that gets thrown through the bus after a gig ...

Yes! Terrible design. Not fit for the real-world.

Sounds pretty good for what is essentially a SS practice amp. Sounds even better because of the price

I've lamented before that it isn't possible make a living out of doing this. About 5 hours labour and $30 of parts went into fixing this amp - even with it coming to me for free, at commercial rates that would make the amp cost about 4 times what it is worth

Ah well, as a hobby it is fulfilling - another one saved from the landfill!

Much respect for keeping a perfectly good piece of kit on the road. A working amp sitting idle is much better than a broken one in the dump.
Also, the best thing about repairing a 20th Century Peavey is that now it will last well into the mid 21st Century.
I'm a Peavey fan, too. Peaveys were my go-to from the early 80s to the early/mid 90s. I still have a couple that I lean on to this day.

Here's a old, 4 button switch I modified for the TRS amps. "Clean" & "Reverb" are Channel select and Reverb on/off. The "Lead" is used with the 50K linear pot for the switchable passive loop volume reduction. I run a couple cables on the added jacks to the Pre Out/Pwr In jacks and get a Lead/Rhythm volume circuit! Works great, and sounds best with shorter loop cables.

I have built the same thing for my Marshall DSL50.

...and the Mesa Dual Rec. However, the Mesa has it's own footswitchable loop, so it's just a volume pot box.
