Looks great Laurie! Sounds like a great combo. 8-)

Where did you get the metal handles from? The holes lined up with the original holes?

Btw, when are you planning the move back to Auz?

The handles are from QComponents:
https://qcomponents.ca/products/mcbride ... ae2c&_ss=r

They are the standard for PA speaker boxes, not Marshall direct replacements. Needed to increase the height of the cut-out about 1/2". Holes do not line up.

Moving later this year if we can get everything aligned :)

simply labelled PZ2 and so on. It is a variation of the standard Phillips drive which is known as PH2
That will be a pozidriv. It has 4 extra small flutes and the bottom of the "seat" is flatter. Gives a more "positive drive" ...

Robertson drive is by far the best drive for grip, but generally only available in Canada. I was raised with Phillips and pozidriv and the square Robertson drive just looked plain weird when I first arrived in Canada.

I have never seen it! Here in Europe you can also buy Torx type screws in hardware stores. These have fine grip as well.

I was thinking through the different drivers that I have...
  • Slot/flat blade
  • Phillips
  • Robertson
  • Pozidriv
  • Torx
  • Securi-torx
  • Triangle
  • Hex (cap-screws)
  • Some weird thing that looks like a cross between pozidriv and Torx

This is an interesting video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eeC1XyZxYs

When I rebuilt the 1960A I put weatherstrip foam around the back of the cab to seal it. From the video above, it is clear that sealing it with foam will make no difference to the tone. The only effect might be to stop rattles, but with the right screws that isn't an issue.

His other videos are pretty interesting too.

Add to the list JIS .. Japanese Industrial Standard. Very similar to Phillips, but not Phillips.

I decided to keep this cab and buy a head to drive it.

Thinking of getting an Orange OR15. Anyone have any experience with this amp?
Yes, my go-to head is my OR15. I like it alot.

Pros:  Takes pedals very well / great overdrive tone / Fx loop / not heavy / very well built.
Cons: Not quite the umpf of a 50w/100w amp, can be a bit bright through the Marshall cabs 've tried it with. The Orange cabs are very thick and bassy (mine are closed back) and match well Quite a "dry" sound, not Marshall "paper-y" more a chimy crunch, not as full or jangly as Fender. It's a good pedal platform I feel.

Recently I've been using the 1 x 12 in the house and have experimented more with radical EQ settings to dial it in. A good EQ or parametric EQ (in the loop?) is I think a must.

I find myself more often than not using the 7w setting on the OR-15 as it compresses early and takes away a bit of the hard edge. Obviously if running at high volumes it comes more alive on the 15w setting.

Yes, that's exactly what I am finding. It has a very good tone, and plenty of volume but it lacks punch through the Marshall cab.

The OR15 is currently up for sale to fund the purchase of the parts to build a JTM45 clone. Now that shouldn't lack bottom end ;)
