New Amp Day - Marshall AS50R Acoustic Soloist

I just came home with a Marshall AS50R that I picked up at the main station in one of our many neighboured towns (Bochum this time).

The reverb doesn't work (for some yet unknown reason) and the seller offered it for 65 EUR and pickup only. He tested it once more yesterday and the power light didn't work, so he cut the price down to 50. I just tried it - the light came up. The amp looks great and works like a charm, only the reverb doesn't. I suppose that something has gotten loose inside. No time for that today. Pictures will follow once I've cleaned and maintained the amp.

Yes, I always liked the sound of this amp that we always used to have in stock in the small music shop. But it was always too expensive for me and I have been on the hunt for a cheap and local deal for years. My Admira classical guitar with Shadow Nanoflex pickup will sound great through it. I know that, because I tried that years ago. Through my tube amp it sounds like garbage.

Oh, and it's the AS50R with the great analog chorus (to my knowledge the same chip was used in the Marshall Supervibe) and spring reverb. It is not the follow-up model AS50D with digital chorus and digital reverb. I never liked the effects of that one.

I had to order a new spring reverb tank. I found out that the pickup of the receiving side of the tank is faulty beyond repair. Both wire ends of the coil are broken and I cannot see a way to get access to the one on the inside of the coil.

The new ones with the same product number are made in Korea these days. I hope it will sound the same. They are not in stock right now, so it will take a few weeks until they arrive.

It should sound fine. Shame about the broken wire :(

But maybe better this way than something that I have to search for on the circuit board. In the end the amp is still cheap with the new reverb tank.

Tank cost should be about 20 Euro?
