Pedal haul today

Happy hunting today. Picked all of these up for USD$100.

The Death Metal, XT-2 and Metal Master are supposedly not working, but I think it will be an easy challenge to get them all going again.

Hard to see, but the DS-1 is a 40th anniversary edition.

It was really surprising - both the prices (they came from two different sellers) and the fact I was able to get in first and grab them. Th Rat cost USD$10...

I'm curious to see why the non-working pedals have failed. An initial look at the XT-2 shows a disintegrated footswitch (easy fix) and no response when the switch contacts are shorted. I'm guessing the power connecter is damaged. Will provide updates as I fault-find the broken pedals if anyone is interested?

The XT-2 is fixed. Replaced the switch and viola, it is all good. I don't know why it wasn't working when I shorted the contacs of the broken switch, but it works now with no issue.

It looks like these pedals are one of the ones that have really increased in value... Nice to get it going!

UPDATE: yes, I do know why shorting the contacts of the broken switch didn't work. When the switch fell apart the contacts "failed closed" so shorting the terminals on the back of the switch did nothing. D'oh!

Digitech Metal Master is fixed. It was again the footswitch. This line of pedals uses a tiny mechanically fragile surface-mount switch and failure is common.

It is almost always some sort of debris or corrosion in the switch. The cure is to drill a 0.5mm hole in the side of the switch (it is a sealed unit) and irrigate it with contact cleaner. I did that, and it works 100%.

Pedal #2 fixed.

I reckon between the XT-2 and Metal Master I could sell them for USD$200 to $250.

Death Metal pedal is up next on the bench. It is missing a battery-snap and there is some dodgy power wiring from an old repair. Should be an easy fix. The battery door is missing, but they can be bought, or likely a missing door won't affect the price.

Very nice.

The Xtortion is becoming quite pricy over here, though not yet extortionate!

Great work Laurie. It’s a good job that I don’t have your skills or I would have twice as many pedals!
