Interested to hear a comparison with the 32_OD if you had a chance?

Okay, since this is a comparison between different overdrive circuitry, I decided to squeeze in a Boss OD-2 that, like the 32OD, uses transistors in the gain stages.

In the picture you can see how I set them up to sound "similar" to each other, but not quite, they are different beasts.

My Boss OD-2 (571300 AUG 1985 first month 8-) ) is a beloved classic, very smooth and strong on mids, not really on bass and not really strong as a booster, nice combined with "dark" amplifiers, like vintage Marshalls.

The Laurie 32OD :D , has a much more open sound, the EQ works in a much wider range of frequencies, better than the others because you have more control over the lower frequencies, the OD-2 works only in the "high'n'mids" and the ODR-1 without the bass cut is a bit "boomy".

The clean blender is it's "forté" and has a big influence on how the overdrive presents itself, from granulated and a tiny bit raspy to a soft attack smoothness.

From this trio, the Laurie 32OD is the lightest in the overdrive, as you can see in the picture, the "Drive" knob is on maximum to cope with the others.

Another characteristic of the 32OD is the strong output, shines boosting preamp tubes/valves of a "cleanish" Fender flavor amp. I like to use it to boost my DIY Champ to play Blues. (When I say "play Blues" is in my alternate reality, in this world I only make noises  )

The Nobels ODR-1 is, as I said before, smooth and responsive to the way you play, the spectrum has a very clever design.

It is also a strong booster, and goes from totally clean to almost distortion, I would say that it is the most versatile among these three.

Both 32OD and ODR-1 are very "transparent", being the ODR-1 a little bit more. But I strongly recommend to buy the newer version with the bass cut switch, the "boomyness" can be a problem in some situations, playing with my JCM800 thru a 4x12, the amp bass knob must be turned down to almost zero.

So that's it, I hope my thoughts could be useful to any of you guys, not really a pro on reviews (far from that), but did my best to compare those 3 pedals that I like very much.

THe Nobels is certainly a really cool drive pedal. The Spectrum knob is really smart!
If one comes around used for a cool deal (or most likely: the ODR Mini or a Wampler Belle), I may just have to jump. I played the Mini and a Belle a few months ago and was very impressed.

As usual, my collecting urge got the better of me  I’ve had these for a few years and always enjoyed digging them out for something a bit different. The overdrives are my favourites but the others are good pedals too.

A nobels rainbow for a change :) I think the ‘Rampage’ brand were genuine rebadged Nobels pedals.

Love the ODR-1
You can get the discontinued more sturdy version made by visual sound called the Open Road. I actually own two of these, Lol Bought one and then my wife bought one for me for Christmas last year.

Sorry Doc, somehow I missed this post.

Congrats, they are beautiful, the colorful cases makes me want them all, looks like candy to the kid I still am. :)

Man you should open a public exhibition, I would travel to see it.

Didn't know about it, made a small research and it is highly regarded, the description of it indeed looks like the ODR-1 sound wise.

Thank you Old_Iron … this very nearly happened ! An old music shop floated the idea and asked if I would be interested in bringing along part of the collection and host a ‘pedal day’ with them. The deal was that they would sell their own pedals and not mine !

Unfortunately, the shop is in a very old city where the roads are narrow and car parking is limited. When we looked at the logistics of getting my stuff there it wasn’t it really practical so the idea didn’t go any further. Maybe one day :)

What a pity, that would be a wonderful source of pictures of your collection for us to appreciate.

I will talk to my friend Betty (The Queen) to use Westminster Abbey for an exhibition week, she owes me a couple favors.

That's a wonderful collection Doc! And great inspiring colours!

How is the tremolo in your opinion?

P.S There's a few more not in the pics(?) inc. the DD-800 Digital Delay, ODR-B Bass Overdrive, DT-1 Straight Distortion :D . Those earlier colours look better though!
