I have played quite a few Klones. They are nice, but not really my thing. I get my crunchy grit tone generated by the amp, so I prefer the SD1/TS9 mid bump for a tighter gain boost in addition to my guitar onboard mid boost circuit. If I played a cleaner tone or leaned on the pedal more for actual overdrive, the Klones work nicely. They were around $200 back then, so it was not an option for me, not for a pedal. A used Marshall 2203 head was $350-400 back then.
If I only knew then what I know now, I would have ponied up! Having a couple dozen mint condition Klons would be pretty sick!
