Thanks for your questions visserman that I will do my best to answer. Firstly, here is a better photo of the pedals covered..visserman wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 2:29 pmIndeed they are very unusual.
Doc, just a few more questions and remarks about your DOD family:
Sorry I did not notice your FX87 Edge one, did not know you had one as well. I see you even have the FX85, how does that one compare to the FX87?
What is the yellow one with the three knobs? The Classic Fuzz any good? I know you do have quite some Fuzz pedals so you may have an idea what this one sounds like.
What about the American Metal one? I just ask because DOD and the names............I have a Supra Distortion, and really this one can produce very convincing Fuzz sounds. Supra?
A have a friend who gave me a Metal Manic to use, and again, this one can give you good Fuzz tones as well, just keep dist. control down and it sounds more like a Fuzz. Anyway, all comments are welcome!
Cheers
I’ll take an easy one to start with ! The yellow pedal with the three knobs is the FX50B Overdrive Plus. Fairly unremarkable Overdrive until you twist the Drive control into the Boost zone and then it behaves like a decent distortion. Nice bit of character to it.
The FX87 I have is the Psycho Acoustic Processor rather than the Edge version. I think it’s only a cosmetic difference. This pedal is an external presence control which boosts the higher frequencies. Not my cup of tea really - fizzes up driven sounds and makes cleans sound too brittle. However, the FX85 Harmonic Enhancer is excellent. You can very precisely dial in where in the frequency range you want the harmonics boosted. Very good for beefing up lead and crunch tones. I toe in the controls (Level at 3 o’clock and Presence at 9). I like this pedal and it certainly is more than a presence control !
The FX56 American Metal. Mmmm..I’ve never really got into this one. It’s a vaguely Mesa type high gain tone with a lot of bottom end - too much for me but would probably suit the 7 and 8 stringers. Nondescript really. I couldn’t get a decent fuzz sound out of it. However, the FX52 Classic Fuzz is a good one. It has the body I look for in a fuzz and cleans up nicely too. Not fizzy but does benefit from a bit of drive /gain from the amp. Really quiet pedal with very little background noise.
I enjoyed messing around with these pedals which don’t make many appearances on my rigs. I hope I’ve answered everything.
