Been working on this in the background - another fuzz

There is something about vintage fuzzes ...

Months ago I did a repair locally on a vintage Ace Tone FM-2. This is my tribute build.

The original is a BEAST of a fuzz. I'm hoping mine comes close - I'll fire it up probably on the weekend.

I'm not familiar with the Ace Tone FM-2 but interested to hear what this sounds like.

Any chance of a demo when you've got it how you want it?

I am curious, too.

The "Fuzz Master" mode was one of the few in the digital BOSS OD-20 that I really, really liked. It had a nice octave-up fuzz sound. I would love to try the original pedal - or a tribute - one day.

The build came out nicely. These take quite a bit of tuning - once I have it dialed in I'll do some clips (and send them to pepe?).

I also have some clips from the vintage one I repaired, so we can see how close the build with new components is.

The original pedal has a footswitch for tone - it switches between the two "sides" of a "Bone Ray" tone stack.

My prototype above has a simple toggle switch rather than a footswitch, but I'll be experimenting with using a 100k potentiometer in place of the switch - this will give a "tilt" tone control, and is actually much more common on the "Bone Ray" tone stack than the switch in the original FM-2.

Sure! I could upload them on my webspace (mp3 with 320 kbps are a good format).

Prototype is fully sorted.

I've added a "tilt tone control" instead of the tone switch - the location of the third control is where the switch was, so it looks odd on the prototype. In the "production" pedals the tone control will be a 16mm potentiometer and the small knob will be down a bit giving a triangle control layout.

The tone on this thing is HUGE. Clips to come.
