Another thrift store find

On the weekend I picked up:
  • An ESP LTD EC-50 guitar in "reasonable" condition - a few dings that need filling, some fret-sprout (standard in the dry Calgary weather), and the nut needs resetting. Nothing major.
  • Plus a 50' (15m) decent quality guitar cable.
  • Plus an Ultimate brand guitar stand.
All for USD$18. My faith in thrift stores has been (temporarily) restored ;)

This guitar is taking more time than expected. There is fret buzz because of badly uneven height frets.

A high quality fret crowning file was needed and I've never owned one - I've always been able to do micro adjustments with normal files.

I ended up buying one of these and will use it to adjust the fret height tomorrow:

Nice score. Our thrift stores are way too corrupt here to find anything decent. There are a few ebay sellers that bribe the Goodwill managers to be tipped off for the day/time that anything nice will hit the floor and they end up waiting by the door that they roll the carts with merch out of, picking anything of moderate value off of the cart before it ever hits the shelves. In other cases, the people taking in the donations will hide things out back and pick them up when their shift ends. My ex's son had a friend who worked on the drive up donation line at a Goodwill and snagged an MIM Fender Standard Strat that way.
