New guitar day (NGD)

Post by The_Doc » Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:51 pm

Sorry all, I forgot to post this one. I got it a couple of months ago.

Jimmy Page ‘Dragon’ Fender Telecaster. Toploader bridge (strings anchor on the bridge tray and don’t pass through the guitar body), Jimmy Page Custom pickups and an unusual scratch plate. No violin bow with this version (comes with the Custom Shop version at £20k/$25k :o ) but some nice case candy nevertheless. Absolutely nails the Led Zep I tone.

It’s not the best Tele I’ve ever played but it certainly does have a unique voice! I’m a huge Jimmy Page fan and have tried to get that early Led Zep sound and feel for years and this get me as close as I’ve ever been.

Congrats Doc. I played a JP mirror Telecaster in a shop in 2019. I was very impressed with the feel and sound! Same guitar as your dragon, except for the paint job.

Thanks :) I tried both and very nearly went for the mirrored one. I liked the basic colour of that one (the mirrors came separately so that you could put them where you want on the guitar), and it played slightly better but I was seduced by the dragon !

I had not noticed this post before, and then saw its original one was from 019 but then noticed your recent reply.
Okay, I need to listen to some early Led Zep to see what you mean. So what did Jimmy use then, a 50s/ early 60s model? Okay I can research it but maybe you want to mention a few things.

When I noticed the Custom Shop price I was thinking: "Why not put one together yourself?" Jimmy used to change necks and bodies all the time, same as with Jeff Beck and all the other guys from that period.
Yours looks neat but do you think you could something like that by just modifying something? The one thing is, off course, you will not know what it will sound like until you have done the job..............that may be part of the journey eh?
Anyway all good!
