Re: Another thrift store find

One year on... It came from a thrift store with all the hardware stripped. My intent was to rescue it with inexpensive hardware and electronics and then likely pass it on. With the upgrades, it now owes me about USD$350. It doesn't hold tune perfectly, it has "idiosyncrasies". Personality. But... Yo...

Yes, these are super helpful. My son has one and I use it from time to time.

Re: Cable Capacitance

I make my patch cables from a pair of Mode 24-610-0 connectors (about USD$2.50 for the pair): https://www.mode-elec.com/Products/audio_plugs_jacks(14-18).pdf And a short length of Japanese high quality microphone cable: https://www.be-electronics.com/product_p/l2e5.htm They work superbly, have almos...

Microprocessor based meter - useful bit of gear to have in the kit

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08YNB7K8G/ I've had this or an earlier version (without a case) for over 10 years. Great for checking components. You will see pics of the readout in these threads: http://www.bossareaforum.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=792&p=9049&hilit=capacitors#p8015 http://www.b...

Re: Best tuner for intonation?

I needed a pedal tuner for the new board and I've become very accustomed to the Turbotuner. I couldn't go back to a "normal" tuner like a TU-3. Today I swallowed the cost and bought a Petersen Strobostomp HD, plus a Stroboclip HD for the acoustic and for when I don't have an amp fired up. Early days...

Re: Cable Capacitance

A great overview, thanks! Cables and connectors also have other properties to be aware of. Capacitance (in "Farads") is part of the bigger picture of LCR: L=inductance, in "Henrys" C=capacitance in "Farads" R=resistance in "Ohms" Plus the percentage shield coverage is an important indicator of how r...

Re: New amp day

WOW! $24 is the used price for a horrible Fender Frontman 10G. Have always liked the Cube 15, it doesn't sound nearly as small and harsh as other amps in that 15W/1x8" configuration. The COSM dirts cover a LOT of ground! Agree it is a quite servicable amp! This one is early - no COSM, all done with...

Ah, nice! This is the very first Cube series, right? These were very innovative back then. I really liked the Cube-15. It's a perfect bedroom amp.
Looks like January 2004 from the serial. For a 20 year old amp, the condition is, almost literally, unbelievable.
