I'll just bet Roland/Boss keep a very tight rein on anything and everything. Maybe they do custom jobs for Boss staff or whatever but I can't imagine any unauthorised work would be tolerated.

What's with the odd looking DS-1, with all the extra holes in the treadle and out of position recess for the rubber pad?

This could explain why an old Bespeco expression pedal I have won't work with the RV-6. Funny thing is, it works fine with the GT-5. Time to break out the soldering iron....mwahahahahaha! Edit to add: This may not be the solution I wanted - but I'll try anyhow - since the pedal has a polarity switch...
