Re: JC-120 in need of a lot of love
In another post I was looking for a darker speaker for this amp. I couldn't find anything reasonably priced so i decided to adjust the preamp instead - to roll off the highs being sent to the speakers. After a bit of trial and error I landed on a 6n8 high frequency roll-off capacitor after the sign...

Re: Looking for advice - what speakers have you tried that are "dark"
Darkest speakers I have played are the Orange "Voice of the World" speakers from their Crush series cabs. I have read that the Mesa Black Shadow is a modified Celestion Classic Lead 80 if that helps open up some options. Yeah, the MC90 is much like a white label G12-80 from circa 1980. Some Boogie ...

Re: Looking for advice - what speakers have you tried that are "dark"
The Mesa MC90 Celestion Black Shadows fit the bill. They have good low end (sound great in an open back cab), flat mids and a subdued top end. They can take the fizz away from brighter amps. I would imagine they would pair well with a bright JC120. These are my favorite Celestions and are installed ...

Re: JC-120 in need of a lot of love
Great work! The amp surely is very happy to be a productive member of ampland again!
That TGP list of JC users is good, but probably still quite short. JCs are defacto clean amps, especially before Peavey nailed their recipe in the late 70s-mid 80s and for those that didn't want the Peavey stigma.

Re: New Non-BOSS Pedals
Love the absolute NON recommendation for the Coron! :D It's like an Applause Super Distortion I got over 30 years ago from a pawn shop. It was $5, so I got it to just see what's up. BOSS-esque build, but sounded pretty bad. It sat unused for a year or so, I plugged it in to see if my perspective cha...

Re: Huh?! BOSS HF-2 and BF-2B are the same??
Really cool info! I have a BF2B. If it can be tweaked to HF2, I'd do it. Is it possible for you to make audio recordings of the following settings? Setting 1: Manual: minimum Depth: minimum Rate: maximum* Resonance: maximum Setting 2: Manual: noon Depth: minimum Rate: maximum* Resonance: maximum I ...

Nicely done!
The JC120 is every bit of an amplification icon as any Fender/Marshall/Vox/Supro/SIlvertone/et al... A restoration is highly appreciated here!

Re: What?!!! MXR MX100 Rockman?
As it turns out, demand is nuts for these. There has been many that have sold for $250-300 on the 'scalper' market.
I get it. It does a thing, and does it well in a format many prefer.
