Re: New bass day - a Vantage 5-string
I used to work in a music shop for 18 years. There's a reason why cheap bass strings are cheap. They sound dull after a few days and they can break very easily. It also happened when I bought a set from Martin. The only brands that I can recommend are D'Addario, Fender, Rotosound, Ernie Ball and De...

Re: New (broken) pedal day!
Spectacular save pepe! If you were so inclined, I've found there is some automotive touch-up paint that is a pretty good match for the Boss silver metallics. It is possible to clean/lubricate those switches (the mode switch). Drill a carefully placed 0.5mm hole in the side of the switch and spray in...

Re: New bass day - a Vantage 5-string
I don't know how much strings cost in other parts of the world, but here in Canada a cheap set of bass strings for a 5-string are $35 + tax. I've been ordering regular guitar strings from a supplier in Asia and they seem to play OK. They work out to about $4.50 a set. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2225695...

Re: Interest in a HM-2 "tribute"?
Thank you! I'll need to contemplate what to build next... I'm warming to a stereo phaser. But a HM-2 at some point might be in the pipeline.

OK, so I obviously have a need to *build* something
I've been seriously considering building a Marshall JTM45 clone. Between my parts-bin and what I can buy from one of my suppliers here in North America, I can put together enough parts for one for about USD$500. These amps have always intrigued me, and, like the HM-2, buying a good used one just isn...

Re: New (broken) pedal day!
It's delicate nature is seemingly from the get go of the design..? It uses sort of odd parts (like the stock pot that is 27-31K). What made these sell was the unique tone, bigger in the low mids for sure. I suspect it was intentional. Thanks for sharing your experience - it all adds to our body-of-...
